“Indonesia has long and acknowledged expertise in the coal mining sector. We hope that Indonesia can share that expertise to Pakistan through joint venture or investment in the coal mining sector especially in the coal-rich Tharparkar area, Sindh Province," said Chief Minister (CM) of the Sindh Province, Mr. Syed Murad Ali Shah, in the farewell call of the Consul General of Indonesia, Dempo Awang Yuddie, in Karachi, on Wednesday (21/2).
The Consul General stated that he will complete his tenure on 28 February 2018 and appreciated the CM of Sindh for his cooperation, his programs on infrastructure-building and improvement of the security situation, that are also felt by the Indonesian citizens residing in the Province.
During the Consul General's tenure, there are 8 Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) between Indonesian and Pakistani businesspeople worth of US$ 26,86 million in sectors such as palm oil, coal, automobile spare parts, betel nut and cosmetic products. Those MoUs contributed to the 21,31% increase of bilateral trade in 2017 to become US$ 2,63 billion. Moreover, numerous Indonesian and Pakistani businessmen has stated their interest to invest in the palm oil sector in the two countries.
On the CM of Sindh's request of joint venture/investment of Indonesian coal mining companies, the Consul General stated that he will convey the request to all stakeholders in Indonesia. So far, to fulfill Pakistan's need of Indonesian coal, the Consul General requests the CM of Sindh's support for 2 (two) Indonesian coal companies that are included in qualification for provider of coal in Jamshoro Power Company Limited (JPCL) in Pakistan.
At the end of the meeting, the Consul General hopes for conducive and secure Pakistan's national election, to be held in the middle of 2018. The Consul General also invited the CM of Sindh to visit Indonesia, of which the CM welcomed the invitation and stated his hope of being able to visit Indonesia one day. The CM of Sindh lauded the Consul General's services and efforts to promote bilateral economic, trade and investment cooperation.
