Industry stakeholders are optimistic about Bahlil Lahadalia’s appointment as the new Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) on August 19, 2024. Hendra Sinadia from the Indonesia Mining Association (IMA) believes Bahlil will focus on key mineral projects and national strategic initiatives, leveraging his experience from his previous role as Minister of Investment.
Gita Mahyarani, Executive Director of the Indonesian Coal Mining Association (APBI), hopes Bahlil will address unresolved issues in mineral downstreaming during his brief tenure, particularly clarifying the role of Managing Institution Partners (MIP) to ensure a fair coal supply. She noted that many downstream projects are still in the feasibility study phase.
Former Minister Arifin Tasrif highlighted the importance of maximizing the potential of nickel, copper, aluminum, and tin for infrastructure and export, emphasizing Indonesia’s significant role in global nickel supply.
