Indonesia’s Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia emphasized that the Indonesia mining industry must be managed responsibly to serve the welfare of the people, in line with the 1945 Constitution. Speaking at the Minerba Convex 2025 in Jakarta, he noted that national mining policies reflect President Prabowo Subianto’s directive to protect natural resources for future generations. The government’s strategy focuses on sustainability, environmental care, and strict compliance with regulations to ensure that the country’s rich mineral and coal reserves continue to support long-term development.
To strengthen regional economies, the government has approved up to 20 downstream mining projects worth an estimated US$38 billion, expected to generate hundreds of thousands of new jobs. Lahadalia highlighted that downstreaming is key to achieving balanced growth beyond Jakarta and empowering local communities. The Indonesia mining industry now also prioritizes MSMEs, cooperatives, and regional enterprises in its licensing process. Supporting this goal, the Energy Ministry launched the Minerba One application — a digital governance platform designed to enhance transparency, accountability, and efficiency from feasibility studies to production and sales reporting.
