At COP30, PT Vale Climate Technology initiatives were showcased as part of Indonesia’s push toward sustainable industrial transformation. PT Vale, together with its strategic partner Huayou Indonesia, presented how new processing technologies, responsible mining practices, and downstream cooperation are supporting the country’s shift toward low-carbon nickel production. Government representatives also emphasized that strong environmental governance, improved transparency, and alignment with global sustainability frameworks are crucial to advancing Indonesia’s green-industry ambitions. PT Vale highlighted its ongoing transition in Sorowako, aimed at reducing absolute emissions by 33% and cutting product-carbon intensity by half by 2030 through innovations such as heat-recovery systems, off-gas utilization, ore-dewatering upgrades, and electrification of critical infrastructure.
The momentum for PT Vale Climate Technology was further strengthened by Huayou’s presentation on advanced hydrometallurgical processes capable of significantly lowering emissions through waste-heat recovery, electrification, CO₂ solidification, and circular waste utilization. These technologies are projected to reduce more than 2 tCO₂e per ton of nickel produced. Industry peers, including Harita Nickel, reinforced the message that collaboration across the mining value chain—from upstream to downstream—is accelerating Indonesia’s transformation into a leader in sustainable battery-materials production. PT Vale also shared its record-low ESG Risk Rating of 23.7, signaling strong performance in responsible operations. The discussions closed with a unified outlook: Indonesia’s leadership in the global EV supply chain will be shaped not only by resource strength but by sustainability, technological excellence, and partnerships that deliver real climate impact.
