China and Indonesia Secure USD 10 Billion Agreements in Green Energy and Technology

China and Indonesia have formalised agreements valued at USD 10 billion during the Indonesia-China Business Forum held in Beijing on Sunday. The deals encompass sectors such as food, renewable green energy, technology, and biotechnology, as reported by Chinese state media.

The forum followed a meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, who is on his first overseas visit since assuming office last month. Notably, this marks Prabowo’s first international trip as president, reflecting Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening its strategic partnership with China.

In a joint statement, the two leaders emphasised plans to bolster collaboration in areas including new energy vehicles, lithium battery production, photovoltaics, and the digital economy. They also pledged to advance the global energy transition and safeguard the stability of global mineral supplies and industrial chains.

President Prabowo expressed optimism about the benefits of closer cooperation, stating, “We must set an example that in this era, cooperation, not confrontation, is the path to peace and prosperity.” He reaffirmed Indonesia’s support for Chinese investments.

Among the agreements signed, Chinese battery materials company GEM partnered with PT Vale Indonesia to establish a high-pressure acid leaching facility in Central Sulawesi to secure nickel resources. Prabowo was present to witness the signing.

Indonesia, the world’s largest nickel producer, has seen its nickel industry dominated by Chinese corporations such as Tsingshan Holding Group and Zhejiang Huayou Cobalt.

In the technology sphere, Indonesia’s GoTo Gojek Tokopedia signed collaborations with China’s Tencent and Alibaba to enhance cloud infrastructure and foster digital talent within Indonesia.

Further agreements included initiatives to streamline visa processes with multi-entry long-term visas and boost direct flights between the two nations based on demand. Additional collaborations covered housing development and the export of fresh coconuts from Indonesia to China.
