The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has decided to impose sanctions in the form of a ban on coal sales abroad to 34 coal companies.
Strict sanctions were imposed because the 34 companies did not fulfill the domestic market obligation (DMO) for coal supply, according to the sales contract with PT PLN (Persero) and/or PT PLN Batu Bara for the period January 1-July 31, 2021.
This decision is in accordance with the Decree of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources No.139.K/HK.02/MEM.B/2021 concerning the Fulfillment of Domestic Coal Needs stipulated by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif on August 4, 2021.
The Director General of Mineral and Coal (Dirjen Minerba) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Ridwan Djamaluddin, sent a decree regarding the “Prohibition of Selling Coal to Overseas” to the Director General of Foreign Trade, the Director General of Customs and Excise, and the Director General of Sea Transportation on August 7, 2021.
The following is a list of 34 coal companies that were subject to sanctions banning coal exports to foreign countries because they had not fulfilled their coal supply obligations according to the sales contract:
